Member Recruitment

Recruiting new members:

  • Have things to do! This is a key to recruiting new members. It has been said before that "there is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer" (Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle). Make sure there are things to do if there is a meeting, then go out and have fun doing them.
  • Plan effectively is a key component to success. Make sure your notes are in order and "i's" are dotted before you enter a meeting. Remember, members are looking to the board for direction and leadership. Although, it is important to keep in mind that we all learn from each other. Even leaders must follow at times.
  • Lead with direction and your will see the hard work pay off. It is ok to "shoot for the moon", but just make sure that the moon is somewhere your club is really trying to get to. Leading with direction is a sign of confidence and lets an organization know that there is purpose to all of your hours of hard work.
  • Bring a friend day is a terrific idea. This allows your club to bring in new members who share common interests but have new and fresh ideas. Having this every third meeting or so keeps it new and exciting. Membership is like a flower, if you don't water a flower is wilts and dies. The same goes for membership, an organization must always be seeking new and fresh talent to carry on the cause once the senior members graduate.
Those who want to be there will be there is the best advice that can be given. Some meetings there may only be five people, but that is ok, because those are five people who really care about your cause and want to do good! That says a lot about a group, in a positive manner.
