Hosting The First Meeting

Hosting your first meeting: It is best to meet with your board officers prior to the first open club meeting. These officers are the president, secretary, etc...

  • Then put up lots of publicity to let everyone know about your meeting time and place. It should be somewhere that is easy to get to and where people feel free to come and go as they please. On a sunny day having a meeting under a shady tree is an option!
  • Ice Breakers are a great way to get to know each other. Plus their fun! You are never to old or to young for a good ice breaker.
  • Structure is important. Try to have a Pre-meeting, Opening, New Business (you can pick a fun title for this item), Closing, and post-meeting. The benefits of debriefing after a meeting are much understated. This is a time for your executive board to evaluate performance and choose areas to improve upon.
  • Fun is above all else something to keep in mind. Are members enjoying what we are doing? This is a good question to ask. If you are having fun, then other people will have fun too and want to come again to the next meeting. Of course getting down to business cannot be forgotten.

Create you own way is the best advice anyone can give new entrepreneur. A million websites will tell you how to think and what to do, but at the end of the day just do what works best for you and your organization. Create your own secret formula of effective management and then head out there and change the world!
